Can we speed up ESR measurement?

The Westergren Method VS. Alternatives

Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) can be measured using different methods, of which the Westergren method is considered the gold standard by ICSH and CLSI. As you will learn from this white paper, we may be able to speed up the way we live, work and travel; we cannot force red blood cells to settle faster than they do.

About Us

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is correlation important?

ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) is one of the most performed first-line in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests. The accuracy and reliability of laboratory tests have always had a major influence on high-quality healthcare as they support medical practitioners in detecting diseases quickly and ruling out other serious medical conditions that cause similar symptoms. With this information, patients get the right treatment and medication, which contributes to a speedy recovery and prognosis. Correlation to the gold standard ensures accurate results.

  • The analyzer you choose depends on the volume of tests your laboratory performs per month. The Microsed performs 40 tests per hour and up to 500 tests per month, making it ideal for lower-volume labs. The Mix-Rate X20 performs 80 tests per hour and up to 5000 tests per month to meet the needs of higher-volume labs. Both analyzers have 15 or 30-minute reading time capability, allowing you to customize your lab’s workflow.
